BIG SPLASH is a region-wide youth event that takes place at Wild Waves and Enchanted Village - a Six Flags Theme Park in Federal Way, WA each May. The purpose of the event is to reach teens that normally wouldn't attend church with the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. The park offers a day full of roller coasters, waterslides, & multiple music stages (including a worship stage). The day ends with a high-energy concert by today's popular Christian bands & the opportunity for young people to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ.
BIG SPLASH is Western Washington's largest and most AWESOME youth event. Trust me, I've went the last 2 years and it is SO FUN!
Unfortunately it's around the day Pastor Jason's wife Heather is due to have her baby. That's why YOU GUYS have to start NAGGING THE HECK out of your leaders to get them to organize a youth group trip to BIG SPLASH this year! Pre-register price ends MAY 6TH so you guys better take some action and smack them leaders upside the head!
Yes. I said it. SMACK 'EM!
When: Saturday, April 21, 2005
Times and Details: People begin arriving at the park around 9 a.m. to either purchase tickets or receive their pre-registered tickets at will-call. After the tickets (wristbands) are acquired, groups line up until 10 a.m. when the gate opens. Throughout the day, people are enjoying the attractions at Wild Waves and Enchanted Village while taking time out to listen to local bands on our several local band stages. The park closes at 4:30 p.m. which is when the gate opens into the outside amphitheater for the concert. The concerts ends at 8:30 p.m.
I talked with Pastor J, and he and i both agree that we are not going to be having a "planned" Masada trip to Big Splash, for many reasons.. the main one is that he is going to be having a kid, second is because i dont want to go to this event becuase of the experience i had last time. There is a lot of "skin" at these events and i don't feel like putting myself in that type of situation. I know that some other students are going and a couple of leaders, but it isn't a planned event. If you want to go Julian you should get with Joey and find out if you go.
I agree... even though it's a "christian event" there are girls prancing around in their bikinis and I know there are some people that struggle with lust... I'm not encouraging it. :o)
It's a WATER PARK. People swim in SWIMSUITS. If that's "sleezy", then you might as well never go to a swimming pool again.
And on the contrary to what Aaron said, I've been having a continual conversation with Pastor Jason and currently we have a week to find responsible leaders willing to organize the event. It'll be announced next week if we find somebody. I'm currently awaiting a response from [a few leaders]
I also spoke with Pastor Jason, and he told me he gave you permission to find some leaders go take you to the event, and like i said i have no problem with that, but he also expressed to me that we aren't going to blow this thing up like we usually would do. But go ahead and get your support i have no problem.
I think what Kristen and I are both trying to say is... Sure, it is a swim park and people are going to swim, but there is a modesty factor that comes into play. People have to check themselves and see if they have any issues with that, because in our previous visit to the event we had many students in our group that would easily be distracted by the opposite sex and what they were wearing to this event. When we have had beach parties in the past that included swimming, t-shirts were required for any ladies that didn't have a 1 piece suit, Sound over-board? Well it says in the word to not force your brother to stumble.. and I know Many people don't struggle with this, but i know that Many people do, and many people are going to this event for that reason which is the wrong reason.. I am saying anyone that i know is, but i know for me that i will not attend this even due to that fact. I dont condone anyone that is going, i just put a disclamer to it saying that if you go be cautious that though you may this christian event means a modest event you will be wrong (atleast from what i have seen).
Well this message board is supposed to be uplifting and encouraging... We all have our views and have laid them out on the table.... from here, just do what you feel led to do. If you really feel it isn't an issue for you, no need to be defensive. The Lord knows your heart.
For the most part this disagreement has been dealt with responsibly- without name calling and whatnot. I think now that we're settled on who stands where, we can cut the debate.
